All Grown Up!

by Meg on June 15, 2011

A few days ago, we made the big move! We moved our three chickens into their coop and run.  They’re almost six weeks old now, we had planned on moving them out at 4 weeks, but the weather was too awful and wet for them.

They’re definitely very chicken chickens, they didn’t leave the coop to explore the run until the sun had almost set.  Which meant they couldn’t see to get back up their ramp, which meant I had to crawl under the coop and retrieve them in the dark.  I caught the whole comedy of their first (voluntary) steps into the big world on video.

Today, they made it out of the coop around mid-morning.  They’re having fun pecking at the ground, looking for bugs and eating scratch.

Riley and Marge having some girl time.

Riley likes to run out and check on them, make sure everyone is doing fine.  She’s definitely turning into the mother hen :-)

We’ve been having lots of fun being backyard chicken owners, Jeff already has plans for our next coop!  When we have more land he wants to build the “Chicken Tower”… which he saw in Chickens Magazine!  This definitely has been an experience for lots of learning.  No matter how researched we are, we’re still learning new things day by day.  I’m very glad that we’re one step closer to being self-sustainable :-)

Be prepared for lots of scrapbook pages about our flock of chickens!

Facing the Horizon

by Meg on August 13, 2010

OR-4364

I forgot to post this one with the last batch of photos!  This is Riley on the dock at Wishon Dam.

Today I managed to re-work my “Services” page… instead I made a whole section!  Now everything is divided up by the type of service & more detailed… somewhat.  Notice that I also now have a special price for Non-Profits needing a website!

Next step will be to finish putting together my portfolio & work on creating a client area.  So I’m facing the horizon to get this business in tip top shape!  Then I can get back to networking & promoting it :)

Baby’s First Road Trip {& Site Redesign}

by Meg on August 12, 2010

Monday the hubbs & I took our “baby,” Riley, to the Shaver Lake area for her first real road trip.

I bought her a life jacket the day before, since we planned to go kayaking & I wanted the boaters to be able to see her.  As you can see, she had a smug look on her face because I was making her wear it.

The whole time I was making her wear her life jacket, she was acting dejected and pouting.  But as soon as people started complimenting her as we were leaving, she perked right up!!  Sigh, where were they three hours earlier?!?

Also, the forest fires all over the state cause that blue haze over the mountains.  It’s pretty permanent during the summer.

She’s definitely Jeff’s baby.  This was taken while we were adventuring in the area around Wishon Dam.  He was holding her because there was a husky mix roaming around ignored by it’s owners.  This shot is a perfect example of her teddy-bear nose.

Best Friend {Photo Friday}

by Meg on August 6, 2010

Violet Louise

We’re back from the Oregon coast, where I got to spend a lot of time with this beauty, Violet Louise.  She immediately took to Jeff, our first morning there I woke up to her resting her head on his bottom.

We had a great time, but I immediately got a cold our first day there.  Today was the first time I felt like doing more than watching Grey’s Anatomy or American Pickers.  Other than fighting with Comcast about our bill, this is the first productive thing I’ve done since getting home.

Specs:

ISO 400
f/8.0
1/800th-second
50mm lens

Edited in Lightroom 3 with the “Santa Cruz” preset & adding some warmth & saturation.

Dog Days

July 12, 2010

Last fall, I happened to catch a few quick snaps of our family dogs.  Riley was brand new to our family pack, still recovering from being a stray.  She’s slightly smaller in these photos than she is now, but she’s still as quick as ever.  Only these two shots of her came out clear, since [...]
