All Grown Up!

by Meg on June 15, 2011

A few days ago, we made the big move! We moved our three chickens into their coop and run.  They’re almost six weeks old now, we had planned on moving them out at 4 weeks, but the weather was too awful and wet for them.

They’re definitely very chicken chickens, they didn’t leave the coop to explore the run until the sun had almost set.  Which meant they couldn’t see to get back up their ramp, which meant I had to crawl under the coop and retrieve them in the dark.  I caught the whole comedy of their first (voluntary) steps into the big world on video.

Today, they made it out of the coop around mid-morning.  They’re having fun pecking at the ground, looking for bugs and eating scratch.

Riley and Marge having some girl time.

Riley likes to run out and check on them, make sure everyone is doing fine.  She’s definitely turning into the mother hen :-)

We’ve been having lots of fun being backyard chicken owners, Jeff already has plans for our next coop!  When we have more land he wants to build the “Chicken Tower”… which he saw in Chickens Magazine!  This definitely has been an experience for lots of learning.  No matter how researched we are, we’re still learning new things day by day.  I’m very glad that we’re one step closer to being self-sustainable :-)

Be prepared for lots of scrapbook pages about our flock of chickens!

Colored Dreams – LR Presets!

by Meg on January 13, 2011

Another new release here at my personal shop, a bundle of four Lightroom Presets!  They’re called “Colored Dreams” because they remind me of how most people dream in black and white… but these add in some very dreamy colors!

I love these presets because they’re so simple!  I made them for processing a photo I took for NEW52 but ended up not using. They’re available over here in my personal shop for only $2.63, which is 25% off until Monday!

My CT member Bonnie got to play with them and here’s her examples:

This week Ashalee Wall released a new kit, Now and Forever at O Scraps, that matches one of the presets PERFECTLY!  I was shocked when I was playing around with her new kit… I just had to make some LOs with photos from our trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nat’l Parks in 2008, when we climbed Mono Rock…

Keep your eye out for two kit releases from me this next week!  I can’t wait to share them with you :)

Country Beauty

Even though the Sierras are still concealed from forest fire smog, it’s still beautiful out here.

The Ranch

by Meg on October 7, 2010

The Ranch

This summer, on our way home from our honeymoon on Catalina Island, Jeff and I were able to stay a few days at my grandparent’s ranch just off of the coast.

When my grandad was planning his retirement, he decided to purchase land in a small valley where he was stationed while my dad was in grade school (I think.)  He did this all from D.C., where he was going to have to drag my grandma kicking and screaming back to California.  She was really attached to her friends in Virginia.  I didn’t know this part of the story until we visited them this summer!

After getting their parcel of land (that’s a story in itself!) my grandad hired a friend’s son who just graduated with some degree in ag to plan and manage the planting of their oranges.  This all happened in the early to mid 90′s, if I remember right.  Now, their oranges are so sweet and so desired, they’re sent off to Japan.  We were there a month or so before their harvest, it was beautiful!

The photo is of one of the trees near the house that they reserve for themselves.  I used my iPhone to snap it as we were leaving to go camp in Big Sur, of course Grandad had to send us off with goodies!  I’ve never ever gone away from a visit to them without a bag full of oranges and avocados.

The Happenings…

by Meg on October 6, 2010

Riley Buns

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to get any scrapping done!  Tonight during Survivor, I knocked out this page for the O Stash challenge at O Scraps!

I need to get out and take some more photos — I’ve been stuck inside for awhile, I’m running out of things to scrap!

Aside from working and trying to keep healthy — I did some house cleaning here at the site.  I’ve cleaned up the sidebars some, and I’m planning on making some larger changes soon.  Notice that I added a link to my Ravelry profile — add me!  I’ve been really crocheting up a storm.

The blanket is about 50% done, factoring in the work to piece it together.  I attempted to get some decent photos today, but had super poor lighting with the overcast skies.  My goal is to have the blanket done by the end of this week — errr early start of next week.  I guess for the road trip I’m going to have to break into my stash to make some scarves or fingerless gloves.  Thank goodness for my iPhone and being able to access patterns wherever I have a signal!

Tomorrow morning is my first Ravelry group meet up!  I’m excited, it’s been so long since I’ve been able to knit or crochet, and even longer since I got to socialize with those who do the same.  How long is long?  Before even dating Jeff.  I’ll definitely be pumping out octagons with the ladies tomorrow :)

Beach Fun! {I Heart Faces}

August 24, 2010

This week’s challenge was “Beach Fun” over at I Heart Faces.  When I first saw it a week or two ago, I thought, no problem!  We’ll be back to the beach soon! Wrong!  We haven’t been back to the coast since we were in Oregon!  So here’s a photo from that trip.  My brother was [...]
