As I promised yesterday, here’s your free Lightroom preset. I can’t remember why I named it “Santa Cruz” almost a year ago… because I believe I used it on photos from a trip to Monterey. Oh well, same bay, right?
Anyways, I know there’s plenty of presets & tutorials to make these photos look like a nice sunny day. However, I like to remember things the way they were — not how I wish they were. So, I went about making this preset to keep the integrity of my photos while still making them look good.
Here’s the straight out of camera shot:
Notice how GLOOMY it is? All of the colors have a gray cast to them. The sky is all one color, no breaks in the clouds.
Here’s the same photo with the preset applied:
The lens vignetting give the sky some color and depth, and a few other modifications make the rest of the colors pop! I’m a sucker for lens vignettes, just to warn you.

Download “Santa Cruz” here.
Developed in Lightroom 3 for jpgs, untested on RAWs.
Not sure how to install it? On my mac, I just drag the file to the LR icon on my bar. For PC, I found this tutorial.
